Activities can be fun, but the real value of team building appears when participants understand what happened inside the team and what should change after the programme.

Start with team behaviours
Choose two or three focus areas such as communication, trust, collaboration, leadership or team energy. Activities then become a medium for surfacing those behaviours.
Use quality debriefing
After each challenge, facilitators should help participants notice communication patterns, role allocation, decision-making and responses under pressure.
Adapt physical intensity
Government, corporate, student and community groups have different physical profiles. Good programmes create inclusive participation.
Close with action
Ask participants to identify one or two behaviours they can apply back in the workplace or team.
